Fashion Exhibitions in Paris Part I (YSL and Gaultier)

By 13:22

Last week I went to two museums I have been very keen on visiting.
I woke up very early and went to rue Leonce Reynaud where you can find the Fondation Pierre Bergé/ Yves Saint Laurent. It was a wise decision to show up 30 minutes before the museum actually opens because apparently I was not the only one being exited for the exhibition and people were already queuing up to get inside.

The Fondation was actually founded by Pierre Bergé who was Yves Saint Laurent's business-partner and companion. Three main goals are targeted by the Fondation: Firstly the conservation of YSL's extensive archive, the organization of exhibitions and the support of cultural and educational projects.

At the moment, the Fondation shows an exhibition called "The Scandal Collection", showing pieces from the 1971 spring-summer haute couture collection. Not only can you admire the original garments from this incredible collection but also take a look at original drawings by YSL. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to take pictures inside, however I thoroughly recommend you to go there! You'll have to be quick though, since the exhibition ends next sunday... You can find more information about the exhibition and the Fondation here.

In the afternoon I went to the Grand Palais to see another fashion exhibition, the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition created by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Mr. Gaultier himself.

This exhibition features more than 130 haute couture garments by Gaultier. The pieces themselves are already breathtaking and the setting is simply the icing on the cake. Check it out...

Some of the models were animated and actually had "real" faces and talked.

The second room was arranged like a fashion show, with a proper runway and spectators that looked like real people. Conchita Wurst was amongst them :)

She didn't look very excited. Maybe because she didn't manage to get a front-row seat...

You can visit the exhibition in the Grand Palais until the 3rd of August, and again, if you get the chance to go you should definitely do it! Any additional information can be found here.
